Motivation Through Positive Thoughts

Self motivation, believe in yourself and thinking positive can lead you to success. If we choose to think positive and those positive thoughts become our dominant thoughts, we can attract more positive influences and positive circumstances and experience. There is nothing good or bad. William Shakespeare once said, “There is nothing whether good or bad, but our attitude makes it so.”

Negative thoughts can be turned to positive thought, as what was said by A W Tozer, “Our attitude towards things is likely to be more important than the things themselves.” William James also said, “People can alter their lives by altering attitudes of mind.”

Our inner thoughts and attitude determines our success. Norman Vincent Peale once said, “Any fact facing us if not as important as our attitudes toward it, for that determines or success or failure.”

Positive thoughts can be acquired as said by Paul J. Meyer, “Attitudes are nothing more than habits of thoughts….and habits can be acquired.”

Think positive for no one can help you except yourselves. G Baily once said, “It is one of the beautiful compensations of life that no man can sincerely try to help another, without helping himself.”

“Change your thoughts and you change your world.” Norman Vincent Peale.

Motivation Is Inside Us

What is motivation? Even after our needs are fulfilled, are we still being motivated? Is motivation something that every person can develop?

Motivation is inside us. If a person is truly motivated to achieve success, it is because of the desire that comes from his inner self, a desire that was inbuilt and remain there even when rewards or recognition are removed. Stephen R. Covey once said, “Motivation is a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly.”

Motivation is an attitude. An attitude is defined as the way we think, feel and act. The way we think determines the way we feel which determines the way we act. “Attitude is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what people do or say. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.” Charles Swindoll

Attitude has two types: positive and negative. There is no neutral attitude. You can change your life simply by changing your attitude. John Maxwell once said, “Your problem is not your problem. Your attitude – how you handle your problem is your problem.”

We may not be able to change the world around us, but we can change our attitude. Rob Conkln once said, “Our attitude is not determined by circumstances but by how we respond to circumstances.” Robert Schuller also said, “The good news is that the bad news can be turned into good news when you change your attitude.”

“At best I.Q. contributes 20% to the factors that determines life’s success which leaves 80% to other forces.” Emotional Intelligence. William Shakespeare said, “There is nothing whether good or bad, but your attitude make it so.”

“It is during hard and suffering times that we learned a lot. I learned to be a bill collector, a supermarket guard…I learned to be everything. When times are good, we don’t really feel the need to do extraordinary, therefore we learn less.” Datuk Maznah Hamid

“I have never been poor, only broke. Being poor is a frame of mind. Being broke is only a temporary situation.” Mike Todd

Motivate Yourself To Succeed

“Success" is subjective. It means different things to different people. Some equate success to wealth and material possessions, others is the attainment of good health, peace of mind or a happy family.

Remember success is not a function of academic achievement, intelligence, heredity or luck because winners are not born; they are made with proper planning and hardwork.
Robert Collier once said, “Success is the sum of small efforts – repeated day in and day out.”

“No one can really pull you up very high – you loose your grip on the rope. But on your own two feet you can climb mountains.” Justice Brandeis.

How to motivate yourself to succeed? You must have high self-esteem, clear sense of direction and purpose, perseverance and persistence, superior human relations, action-oriented attitude, focus on your unique strength, high level of discipline, delay gratification and practice continuous self improvement.

Success is 85% attitude and 15% aptitude. William James once said, “Our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task will determine its successful outcome.”

Dream and motivate yourself to succeed in life. T.E Lawrence said, “All men dream, but not equally. Those men who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the morning to find it was but vanity, but those men who dream by day – these are dangerous men, for they dream with open eyes to make their dreams come true.”

Great Quotes To Motivate Us

We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success. We often discover what we will do, by finding what we will not do. And probably he who never made a mistake, never made a discovery.” Samuel Smiles

A philosopher, Horace Kallen once said, “There are persons who shape their lives by the fear of death and persons who shape their lives by the joy and satisfaction of life. The former live by dying; the latter die living.”

The ability to work smarter and live happier is a never-ending journey. Enjoy your weekend. “For many people weekend time has become not a chance to escape work but a chance to create work that is more meaningful – to work at recreation in order to realize the personal satisfaction that the workplace no longer offers.” Witold Rybezynski.

Goethe once said, “I respect the man who knows distinctly what he wishes. The greater part of all the mischief in the world arises from the fact that men do not sufficiently know their own aims.”

Listen to differing opinions and leave the egos behind. Edward de Bono once said, “People with high IQs tend to use their intelligence to successfully defend their point of view. They never listen, never seek alternatives. That doesn’t make for good thinking.”

Motivation To Drive Employees

Employees want more than salary alone as a source of motivation to inspire them to meet up with the growing job demands. Individuals see motivation as an inspiration that drive out the positive behaviour at work. Employer uses motivation as an “accelerator” to push their employees to go beyond their expected performance.

Dale Carnegie once said, “Begin with praise and honest appreciation. Call attention to people’s mistakes indirectly. Talk about you own mistakes before criticizing the other person. Ask questions instead of giving direct orders. Make the fault easy to correct. Make the other person happy about doing what you suggest.”

Employees want good work condition, reward, recognition and respect. Rewards can be in the form of intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic rewards are job satisfaction, career opportunities, job challenge and opportunity for creativity. Extrinsic includes performance related pay, incentives, fringe benefits, job status and job safety.

Recognition consists of training, career development and support. Respect includes empowerment, trust and transparency.

King Whitney Jr. once said, “Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worst. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better.”

“The first step to knowledge is to know that we are ignorant.” Cicero

Motivation With Abundance Mentality Attitude

An abundance mentality attitude is more than having a positive mental attitude. A positive mental attitude is when you look at how things can be done rather than why it can’t be done.

People with an abundance mentality attitude believe the following:

O The more I sell, the more there is to sell
O The more I give, the more there is to give
O The more I know, the more there is to know
O If I need money, I’ll find the money.
O If I need people, I’ll find the people.
O There is enough resources available to accomplish their goal.
O They are happy when friends prosper.

They help others grow. “When you help another person get to the top of a mountain, you will arrive there also.” A wise philosopher once said.

Micheal Jordan once said, “Talent wins games, but teamwork wins championships.”
Change your attitude to “abundance mentality” today and get yourself motivated to achieve success.

Zig Ziglar once said, “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

William James ( 1842-1910) once said, “The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind.”

Motivation By Believing In Yourself

Robert H. Schuller once said, “Every achiever that I have ever met says; ‘My life turned around when I began to believe in me.”

Believing in ourselves is the most powerful tools in motivation. Even how much friends motivate us, how much our parents, teachers and leaders motivate and inspire us but when don’t response positively and act, we will not change for the better. Change our thinking and our attitude then. Fred Smith once said, “You are the way you are because that’s the way you want to be. If you really wanted to be any different, you would be in the process of changing right now.”

Believe that you too can be a better person. Theodore Roosevelt said, “Do what you want, with what you have, where you are.” Do not quit. Bernard Baruch once said, “People of mediocre ability often achieve success because they don’t know enough to quit.”

Do what you like to do and do more, you will be happy. A.W. Robertson once said, “If a man does only what is required of him, he is a slave. The moment he does more, he is a free man.”

“Aim at the sun, and you may not reach it, but your arrow will fly far higher than if aimed at an object on a level with yourself.” Joel Hawes.

Take care of your health. “You will never appreciate your health until you are sick.” Richard Nixon.

Can Failure Motivate Us?

“Failure is a lack of success in doing or achieving something, or in a particular area of activity.” Collins Cobuild Dictionary.

Looking at failure as something negative will surely bring you more miseries. However if you perceive failure as something positive, you will be awarded with success. Do not fear failure as what was once said by Dr. J Allan Peterson, “Everyone at one time or another has felt like a complete failure. Many have allowed the fear of failure to destroy them. Actually, fear is far more destructive than failure and in any area of life fear of failure can defeat you before you get started.”

Failures do motivate us to work hard to achieve success. Thomas Watson once said, “Most people make a common mistake by thinking of failure as the enemy of success. You’ve got to put failure to work for you….Go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that’s where you’ll find success – on the far side of failure.”

Failure motivates us to succeed. “We never learn from success, we learn from our failures.” John Naisbitt. Past failures are actually guidepost for future success. “When you fall and get up it does something to you. It is healthful and invigorating to fall many times through life, if you get up each time. It is the getting up that count.” Yoritomo Tashi.

Henry Ford once said, “Failure is the only opportunity to begin again more intelligently.”

“Until you believe in yourself you won’t believe in your failure.” Anonymous.

Can Poverty Inspire And Motivate Us?

Can poverty inspire and motivate us? Depending on how we look at poverty, whether we look at it positively or negatively. We can always comment that a cup of water is half full or half empty. Clement Stone once said, “There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.”

Confuscius was and orphaned at an early age. Booker T was born into slavery, but became the most influential black leader and educator of his time. Konosuke Matsushita, born in 1894 and with 100 yen started his business in a single rented room of 130 square feet and built one of the largest electrical appliance firms in the world.

“Suffering comes to ennoble man, to purge his thoughts of pride and superficiality, to expand his horizons. In summary, the purpose of suffering is to repair that which is faulty in man’s responsibility.” Rabbi Joseph B Soloveitchik.

Pain, problem and sufferings have to be experience by every human. Their existence indicates that they definitely have a role to play in our lives. They are bitter, but after all not all good medicines are sweet.
Annie Besant once said, “One of the strangest traits lies in the fact that it takes tragedy, failure or some form of misfortune to make us realize the power of a positive mental attitude.”

Poverty, suffering and problems do inspire and motivate us to work hard and smart to achieve success.

Motivated By Being Handicapped

John Milton was blind, yet he could write England’s greatest poem. Beethoven was also stone blind, but yet again he could composed some of the most beautiful music ever. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was stricken by polio and was paralysed from the waist down at the age of 39, was elected president of the United States, not once but to a fourth term.

What drives these people to achieve such a success? The answer is their handicap. Helen Keller said, “I thank God for my handicaps for without them I could not have succeeded.”
Thinking that they have failed and not accepting failure and handicaps as reasons, they were motivated to prove otherwise. Dr K. Sri Dhamananda once said, “To learn from failure is to achieve success. Never to have failed is never to have won. Unless we experience failure and its bitterness, we will never appreciate the sweetness of victory.”

They have perseverance and concentration. C.W. Wendte once said, “Success in life is a matter not so much of talent and opportunity as of concentration and perseverance.” They have faith and confidence in themselves. Douglas Mac Arthur said, "You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear, as young as your hope, as old as your despair”.

Motivation By Arousing The Giant Within

Sir Winston Churchil was a poor student who became Britain’s greatest statesman. .Helen Adams Keller was dumb, deaf and blind but became the author of several articles, books and biographies. Edison was deaf when he invented phonograph.

What do they have in common? There are winners in the game of life who refused to accept their genetic handicaps and have awakened the giant within.

“Deep within man dwell those slumbering powers; powers that would astonish him, that he never dreamed of possessing; forces that would revolutionize his life if aroused and put into action.” Orison Swett Marden, the great philosopher.

We must motivate ourselves by arousing the slumbering giant within us and put into action in the game of life.

“God spare me sclerosis of the curiosity, for the curiosity which craves to keep us informed about the small things no less than the large is the mainspring, the dynamo, the jet propulsion of all complete living” John Mason Brown.

Get Motivated By Being Happy

Can a person get motivated when he is unhappy? A happy person can easily absorb ideas and think rationally. Happiness is in the mind as what was said by Sir Roger L’Estrange, “It is not the place, nor the condition, but the mind alone that can make anyone happy or miserable.”

Happiness is liking what you do. James M Barrie once said, “Not in doing what you like, but in liking what you do is the secret of happiness.” He further said, “Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get.”

Be happy therefore to get motivated.

Make Motivation A Way Of Life

Zig Ziglar said about motivation,
“Motivation is the fuel necessary to keep the human engine running.”

We should not wait until we are feeling down to listen to motivation tapes to get our spirit lifted. Why not make motivation as a way of life because it is easier to stay motivated than to get motivated.

Motivation inspires us to come up with creative ideas and success can easily be achieved. Jeremiah W. Jenks once said,
“The inlet of man’s mind is what he learns; the outlet is what he accomplishes. If his mind is not fed by a continued supply of new ideas which he puts to work with purpose, and if there is no outlet in action, his mind becomes stagnant. Such a mind is a danger to the individual who owns it and is useless to the community”

Motivation Through Imagination

Albert Einstein, one of the greatest scientists of all times once said, “No problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it. We must learn to see the world anew.”

Albert Einstein pointed out that imagination is more important than knowledge. Without imagination, people will destine to follow the same old beaten path and do the same things the same old way. Imagination motivates us to see beyond existing boundaries, encourage creativity and innovation.

H.J Heinz also once said, “To do a common thing uncommonly will bring success.”

Imagination motivates us to concentrate to focus to attain the goal that you set. Anatole France once said, “Some succeed because they are destined to; most succeed because they are determined to.”

“Were it not for imagination, a man would be as happy in the arms of a chambermaid as of a duchess.” Samuel Johnson.

“The sorcery and charm of imagination, and the power it gives to the individual to transform his world into a new world of order and delight, makes it one of the most treasured of all human capacities.” Frank Barron.

Motivation Through Recognition And Appreciation

People have feeling and emotion. They need to feel appreciated. When appreciated they become happier and importantly, more motivated. There is no cost to appreciation, instead appreciation have excellent motivational consequences. However be direct and simple in your show of appreciation, otherwise if too elaborate is seen as flattery.

Research has shown that people crave and yearn for recognition. Genuine praise for something well-done will build up self esteem and confidence. Recognition and praise is an important motivational tools that managers must make use of often.

Everyone wants to be liked, appreciated and respected. Letitia Baldridge once said, “If you make the obvious effort to be accommodating, sympathetic, and kind, business will transpire and deals will be made; profits and goals will be realized.”

“A certain amount of care or pain or trouble is necessary for every man at all times. A ship without ballast is unstable and will not go straight.” Schopenhauer

Motivating People To Outperform

Bringing out the best in people and develop the full potential in a person, we must motivate them to move away from mediocrity to first class performance. Motivation is the most powerful means that is by timely recognizing one’s ability through praise.

Praise is due immediately you recognize a good piece of work is done. The idea is to reinforce good behaviour and performance with immediate praise. A praise may sound like this; “That’s a terrific job you have done. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Sincere praise given at the right time gives tremendous morale boaster to the receiver and it stimulate him to strive to excel the next time round.

Dorothy Nolte once said, “If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate.” On the contra, William Blake said, “A truth that is told with bad intent, beats all the lies you can invent.”

“Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being.” Johann W. Von Goethe.

Motivating Attitudes

Clement Stone said, “There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.”

The first attitude is the way we feel about ourselves. This is called self-esteem.

The second is love. Real love is always in term of what is best for the other person. Matt Zatti said, “Live through feeling and you will live through love. For feeling is the language of the soul, and feeling is truth.”

The third is faith. Faith is attitude towards God.

Hope is the fourth attitude, which is attitude towards future. John Johnson said, “Men and women are limited not by the place of their birth, not by color of their skin, but by the size of their hope”.

The fifth attitude is forgiveness, the ability to forgive others for any wrong-doing. William Arthur Ward said, “Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hate. It is a power that breaks the chains of bitterness and the shackles of selfishness”.

Maintain these five attitudes because it is easier than regaining the right attitude and you will be well on your way to success.

Motivation With Winning Attitude

Winning is never easy, we need discipline, determination, plan and strategies. Attitude determines how well we perform a task. Lou Moltz said; “Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”

Have passion for the cause. Inspire people and have positive attitudes, lead the way with positive attitude and have enthusiasm to lead. Enthusiasm is infectious and motivates people to overcome obstacles. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”

Identify the problems before setting out to solve them because setbacks can adversely affect the attitudes of people. Unearth the root cause of problems. Mingle, hear their gripes, receive their suggestions and listen before making any judgements.

Dream for success. Great philosophers, scientists, explorers, leaders all dared to dream. What each individual becomes is a matter of personal choice because mothers do not give birth to doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientist and accountants. Abraham Lincoln said, “Your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other one thing.”

Adapt to change. Change is inevitable. In order to maintain and improve our position, we must continue to adapt to the circumstances. Mike Murdock said, “Thousand of people will fail in life because they are unwilling to make changes.” He further said, “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.”

Motivation - Attitude Determine Our Success

Motivation On Attitude

Attitude towards every circumstances greatly determine whether you can achieve success in life. John Maxwell once said; “ You are only an attitude away from success.”

We may understand more about attitude by what Charles Swindoll said about it;

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say to do. It is more important than appearance, gifted ability, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace from that day. We cannot change our past, we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing that we can do is play on the one string that we have and this string is, attitude. I am convinced that life is ten percent what happens to me and ninety percent how I react to it. And so it is with you….We are in charge of our attitudes.”

Motivation - Fulfilling Human’s Needs

Everything we do is to satisfy our basic needs and desire at any particular moment. These basic needs excite our behaviour. An unsatisfied need can be our motivator since it causes a behaviour; and that behaviour is, we want to do something to satisfy our desire.

To motivate anyone, we have to know and understand some of the commonly shared human needs. There are five shared human needs; physical, security, belonging, ego and achievement.

Physical needs are men’s basic animal needs. They include the crave for food, water, shelter, sex, basic material comforts, rest, relaxation, recreation, exercise and sleep. Individuals suffering from physical need are quite easy to spot. Often they move slowly, tend to grumble and absent from work. A jogging or exercise program could be proposed.

Security needs include financial, physical (environment) and emotional security – to be protected from bodily harm, to have job security and free from worry. Modern corporations draw up strategies and guidelines for benefits that aimed towards satisfying these employees’ needs.

The need to belong is the next level of human needs. People want to be accepted by others, to be part of the group, to be considered a worthwhile individual in the society. We must recognize that they want to be part of the herd and thus we should avail him the opportunity to have access to as many social and group contacts.

The fourth tier of needs is the ego needs. Ego need is often called the status needs or the need to be recognized. A person with ego needs like to display awards, trophies, he does not like to conform, flashy dreamer, fancy wearing expensive accessories, frequent expensive restaurant, playing golf, driving expensive cars and lots more.

With ego needs having been actualized, a person then advances up the final step to fulfil his last level of desire and that is the “achievement needs”. Acievement needs refers to a person’s self-fulfillment desires or the self-actualisation feelings – the drive to be the best, to be the champion, to win, to develop the fullest potential, to reach the highest peak.

“I thank God for my handicaps for without them I could not have succeeded” Helen Keller.

Self-Motivation : Getting Motivated

Self-Motivation

Many of us set goals but fail to achieve it. We feel hopeless, despair and unmotivated. Others can advise and inspire but the most significant factor that help us change comes from within. This is called self motivation.

How do we remain self motivated to stay on course and finish the task or achieve the goal?

Set your goal and prioritise them. “Never, never, never give in, in whatever you do.” Winston Churchill.

Carry out daily self-development. Read motivational books or listen to motivational tapes. “Learning is wealth to the poor, an honor to the rich, an aid to the young, and a support and comfort to the aged.” John C. Lavatar

Move away from your comfort zone. “Progress is impossible without change; and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” G.B Shaw

When you think, think big. “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” Les Brown

Do not fear mistakes and failure. Learn from it. “Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.” Henry Ford.

Be positive in your thought. “A positive attitude won’t let you do anything. But it will let you do everything better than a negative attitude.” Zig Ziglar.

Stay focus on what you are capable of becoming. Believe in yourself. “If we did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves.” Thomas Edison.

Stay close to people with the same ambition and goals. “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that but the really great people make you think that you too can become great.” Mark Twain.

Motivation For Success - Part 3

In a world in which acquiring of knowledge seems to be non-stop in order to stay ahead and on top, we have to do some serious examination and self motivation.

Programme ourselves for success such as taking stock of ourselves, teach ourselves how to control our own mental programs by understanding why, how and what we do.

Understand our life purpose and diligently identify what makes us function and define our mission in life. John Maxwell said, “We cannot become what we need to be by remaining what we are.”

Constant self motivation and personal development is a must because this is the foundation and key for making our lives work for the better. “Age is no handicap to learning a new trade, profession, or anything you want to do at any time of life.” E.L. Thorndike.

Model other people who have achieved success. Study and adopt the characteristic of peak performers to achieve success. Charles Adair said; “You get better results if you have high expectation. This is true in science, math, reading, football or band.”

Value ourselves. Until we value ourselves, we won’t value our time, and further until we value our time, we won’t do anything with it.

Increase our skill in influencing other people in a positive manner. The art of personal rapport allows us to get things done by teaming with and leveraging the strength of others. Remember this saying; “No matter what great things you accomplish, somebody helps you.” William Randolph

Adjust our attitude. It is our attitude that determines our direction in life. “A positive mental attitude combined with definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all worthwhile achievement.” Napolean Hill

Motivation To Success - Part 2

Constant personal development is a must because this is the foundation and key for making our lives work for the better.

Motivation To Success - Part1

In a world in which acquiring of knowledge seems to be non-stop in order to stay ahead and on top, we have to do some serious examination and constant motivation.

Constant motivation and personal development is a must because this is the foundation and key for making our lives work for the better. “Age is no handicap to learning a new trade, profession, or anything you want to do at any time of life.” E.L. Thorndike.

Motivation Keeps Us Going When The Going Gets Tough

If you are motivated to do something, you are caused to feel determined to achieve something and willing to work harder in order to succeed. A motivated person is one who can pull out or draw out what is inside to accomplish best results. Motivation helps us pull out and make use of things that had long ago been buried and, we thought, forgotten to effective use.

Motivation is the key to keep us going when the going gets tough. This is further substantiated by what Mr. Zig Ziglar said; "Motivation gives you the "want to" and provides the spark to light the fire of knowledge. It enables you to utilize your training and experience while pulling out of you the strength, character, and commitment to keep you going when the going gets tough."

"Motivation fuels that attitude that builds the confidence necessary to sustain the persistence." Zig Zizlar.

Motivation By Definition

The dictionary definition of “motivation” is a noun for “motivate” which is to “cause (person) to act in particular way, stimulate interest of (person in activity)”. While “motive” is what induces person to act, tending to initiate movement”. ( The Oxford Dictionary, New Edition, 1995).

Motivation is the driving force or influence that is capable of bringing out the best in all of us. We all have it, but the question is whether it is a good one or a bad one, whether that motivation is positive or negative. Motivation should not be equated with excitement, enthusiasm and inspiration. The three could be manifestation of motivation and are not motivation in itself.

As human and by nature, we need to be stretched, cautioned, reprimanded or critiqued a bit, otherwise complacency sets in. We need to be cajoled to gets things done and going.

A cowboy riding a horse need to prick his horse with the spur attached to his riding shoes to get that horse run faster. “People and rubber bands have one thing in common: they must be stretched to be effective.” John Maxwell.
