What is motivation? Even after our needs are fulfilled, are we still being motivated? Is motivation something that every person can develop?
Motivation is inside us. If a person is truly motivated to achieve success, it is because of the desire that comes from his inner self, a desire that was inbuilt and remain there even when rewards or recognition are removed. Stephen R. Covey once said, “Motivation is a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly.”
Motivation is an attitude. An attitude is defined as the way we think, feel and act. The way we think determines the way we feel which determines the way we act. “Attitude is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what people do or say. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.” Charles Swindoll
Attitude has two types: positive and negative. There is no neutral attitude. You can change your life simply by changing your attitude. John Maxwell once said, “Your problem is not your problem. Your attitude – how you handle your problem is your problem.”
We may not be able to change the world around us, but we can change our attitude. Rob Conkln once said, “Our attitude is not determined by circumstances but by how we respond to circumstances.” Robert Schuller also said, “The good news is that the bad news can be turned into good news when you change your attitude.”
“At best I.Q. contributes 20% to the factors that determines life’s success which leaves 80% to other forces.” Emotional Intelligence. William Shakespeare said, “There is nothing whether good or bad, but your attitude make it so.”
